SUMMARY:St. Pete Moving Still at The Quak
DESCRIPTION:This art exhibit reception at The Quak Center for Lifelong Learning at Westminster Suncoast will serve as the finisage (closing event) to the social art project “St. Pete Moving Still” at Westminster – and at the same time it’s also the public premiere of the project and the beginning of the individual art piece’s journey to other exhibits\, homes\, and places of care. \nThis event is the public companion to the by-invite-only event at the Westminster Suncoast Nursing Center on November 2nd\, which will be the true start of the “St. Pete Moving Still” visual\, biophilic\, social art work by Luci Westphal. \nSt. Pete Moving Still features a collection of portable frames\, each showing a nature image that may at first appear to be just a photo\, until the viewer detects some movement… Each frame\, in fact\, plays a video. \nBased on the theory of biophilic art\, Luci initiated this art project to improve people’s emotional\, mental\, and physical well-being as it connects the viewer to nature outdoors\, while being indoors. \nOn November 2nd\, at an invite-only event in the Nursing Center\, Luci will unveil the “Moving Still” frames – and residents will be able to borrow these frames for their rooms until the public premiere on November 14th. \nLuci Westphal received a 2022 St. Petersburg Arts Alliance Individual Artist Grant for her biophilic\, social\, visual art project St. Pete Moving Still.\nFIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE MOVING STILL PROJECT \nThank you to the the City of St. Petersburg Office of Cultural Affairs\, the St. Pete Arts Alliance and its staff\, and the jury of the 2022 SPAA grant\, and the residents and staff of Westminster Suncoast\, mainly Carly Jewel Green and Sarah Feehan! \nThis event is open to the public. But since it’s within a gated community\, RSVPs are strongly encouraged. Please email ahoi@LuciWest.com or call/text (727) 266-6925‬.

SUMMARY:On Wood / Of Wood - St. Pete ArtWalk Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:One-night-only exhibit at 4 Gats Gallery during St. Pete 2nd Saturday ArtWalk. \nThis special installation features photography work by Luci Westphal especially curated\, and partially even created site-specific\, for this unique gallery in the middle of the Warehouse Arts District’s roundabout that is home to the wood sculpture artist Randy Colbath. \nThe exhibit is divided into two different views of celebrating wood as a photographer: photography printed on wood and photography of wood\, i.e. featuring images of trees. \nThe photographs printed on maple wood are the beginnings of a larger series called “Surviving or Thriving?”. The images show wildlife and plants in an active context with urban and industrial backdrops\, some of which even enhance the ability for nature to thrive. \nThe photographs of wood are especially created for this event and location: large-scale prints of some of the trees that have impressed Luci the most.
