Guenter Westphal, schwarz weiss, Strassenfest, Muenzviertel

This photo, I took of my father, Günter Westphal, in 2023 during the Münzviertel Strassenfest (block party), he helped organize from the beginning and for many years. Today, this photo will stand by his coffin during his funeral.

Guenter Westphal

Günter Westphal was everything a parent and a mentor could be. Supportive and inquisitive. Open-minded and space-giving. Humble about himself, outspoken for others. He asked the challenging questions and left me with wise quotes and guidelines to live and create by.

He had a brilliant and creative mind, a beautiful view of the world, a natural eye for photography, and ceaseless energy and determination. Above all, his heart was full of love and compassion – not just for us, his family, and his friends; his creative and social art work focused on and helped people on the fringes. He left the world a better place than he found it.

What an inspiration and shining light!

We will keep going, on eye-level.
Wir machen weiter, auf Augenhöhe.

I will miss him beyond words.

Today, we lay his body to rest. But his art, wisdom, love, and spirit will live on in us and in our compassion for the other.

The rose is equal to the dandelion… and the cow parsley.
Alle haben Blätter, so zart.
