Every once in awhile, I record a minute or so of a concert I attend. It’s usually a song that’s especially dear to me. Recording just a few moments usually stills my desire to photograph and film everything, and I can then enjoy the rest of the show without that nagging desire to capture and with the freedom to dance my butt off.
On March 24th, 2015, I experienced the magical performance of Jessica Lea Mayfield and Seth Avett singing Elliott Smith songs at the Boulder Theater in Boulder.
I captured my favorite part of my favorite Elliott Smith song: “Fond Farewell”.

That night, I thought a lot about my friends and how much I love them and miss them and how grateful I am for having them in my life, no matter how far away they are. I was reminded of that feeling again, when that silhouette passes across the screen on the word “friend.”
But this song in particular I would like to dedicate to Hollie, who lost her cat that week. So Hollie, this one is for you (even though, I believe your favorite song was “Between The Bars”, no?). I hope we can sing together again soon. It’s been too long…
