Look who ran into my parents’ front yard this morning: a pheasant with tail feathers so long, my lens couldn’t fit them in. And as pheasants do, it also ran out just as fast - but not before I finally got a photo of this spectacular bird. And because my family believes in the Geburtstagsvogel, it seems that this is my father’s birthday bird because he turned 81 today. Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Papi! Sun setting. Fog rising. Grateful for the beauty of nature, and my Papi who showed me how to capture the world in images, and all the plants I've been gifted that are thriving in my yard, and that bird poop on that back leaf that is keeping all of this real, and moments when I don't overthink and stand in my own way - and last but not least I'm grateful for a body and mind that let's me experience, capture, and share. Good enough for social media. One of those photos I really wanted to work for the St. PetersBird calendar and as a giclee or metal print. But ultimately, the grain made that impossible.
