The Creation of Reid Jenkin's mural
For the 11th Annual Shine Mural Festival in St. Petersburg, Florida, over a dozen local artists created vibrant large-scale public art. A unique opportunity to watch and photograph street art in the making.

HEADS-UP: This is a work-in-progress blog post, I’ll be rearranging and adding info to individual photos another day… Running out of time for today, but wanted to publish…

With several friends creating public art murals from downtown to Historic Kenwood and the Warehouse Arts District, I couldn’t resist the call to take many photos throughout the weeks-long creation process.

Taking photos of people really isn’t my thing. But with four ArtsXchange studio neighbors / colleagues / friends participating in this year’s Shine: Origins Mural Festival, I couldn’t resist. And I got hooked.

It’s been such a pleasure to watch and capture these brilliant artists at work – it reminds me of my old concert and music video shoots. The high of capturing the moment and connecting with the artist-at-work in this way is intoxicating, maybe even addictive.

Of course, my experience with taking the photos is not as exciting as the art itself being created by these four, and about a dozen other local artists, on the walls of St. Petersburg, Florida. The magic of seeing large-scale visual art being made is incomparable.

You can find a map of all the 2025 Shine Murals below and via Google Maps. You can find a map of previous Shine Murals via the official Shine Festival website.

A huge thank you to St. Pete Arts Alliance for putting on the event, to Derek Donnelly (aka Saint Paint) for organizing and to all the sponsors to making it possible. And my ultimate gratitude to all the artists creating public art on our walls and letting us watch, photograph, record videos and chat you up while you’re trying to work.

Work-In-Progress

At this point, some of the murals are still in the works. Also at this point, I have not yet sorted and edited all photos. So I plan to add a few more to the blog post – I also may pull a few again. In parallel, I’ve also created a cloud folder where artists can download photos I’ve taken of them.

Please be in touch if you’re an artist and do not want me to feature any of your photos and/or would like to get the link to download your photos in a higher resolution.
