This past Tuesday, I saw the best Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds show I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been to quite a few since that first one in 1991, when I managed to sneak backstage and have unforgettable and inspiring conversations with Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld and filmmaker Peter Semple).

Nick Cave’s energy and presence were amazing and the sound at the Milton Hoyte Buell Theater in Denver was outstanding.
Our seats in the third row were incredible, too. I’m not a fan of seated shows, except when everyone gets up immediately and then you have the seat rows as buffers from other people and get enough room to dance. Fortunately, that’s what happened as soon as The Bad Seeds got on stage – however, unfortunately not during the also great opening performance of Warpaint.
Also, unfortunately, we missed most of Warpaint (whom I was very excited to finally see) because we had just returned from Germany (after a 30-hour trip) and jetlag had us oversleep our alarm.

As many people do, I have mixed feelings about holding up a camera during a show and taking pictures or recording video instead of just watching and moving with the music. But then I’m an obsessive photographer and filmer… and just had to capture some of it. But I kept it to a minimum and only grabbed one full song, my favorite (“The Mercy Seat”) and a few choice moments, including Nick Cave telling an obnoxious audience member calmly to fk himself – in the middle of performing “Stagger Lee”.

The video and photo quality at this show made me realize that it might be time to upgrade to a new point’n’shoot camera… The photos here, I pulled from the videos. For straight pictures, the venue was a bit too dark with my camera.
