For the global Play Music on the Porch Day 2023, 22 musical acts played on 6 porches in Historic Kenwood. I took photos at three of the porches in our St. Pete neighborhood.
The international Play Music on the Porch Day event started out with an idea by LA-based artist Brian Mallman in 2014: “What if for one day everything stopped… And we all just listened to the music?“ Since then it has turned into thousands of musicians playing music in dozens of countries – on the last Saturday in August.
Last year, our neighborhood participated with only one porch and a handful of musicians. This year, neighbor and friend Bryan Klopfenstein went above and beyond in putting together a much larger event. It was a smash success, despite the August heat. Another event to bring (performing) arts to the people in our Artist Enclave of Historic Kenwood!
Big thanks to all the musicians, porch-providers, volunteers, and chipper neighbors.
