Douglas Reservoir – In A Colorado Minute (Week 286)

Douglas Reservoir,
often also called Douglas Lake, is a State Wildlife Area just north of
Fort Collins in Larimer County, off county road 60. The reservoir’s big
attraction truly is the wildlife: lots of birds, including pelicans and
herons, and plenty of fish, mainly trout and carp, which in the wetlands
on the north end, you can see “climbing” out of the water. My footage
of a carp doing just that was from a little too far away, so I didn’t
think it worth including.

Douglas Reservoir is a great place to go
for a boat ride or to lounge on the east side beaches with a view of
the Rocky Mountains Foothills on the other side of the lake – and of
course for fishing. So we took our boat Slow Ride
out for an afternoon and early evening of fishing and filming. It was
both so invigorating and relaxing at the same time that we all left
happy, if a bit sleepy, even Whiskey dog as you can see in the video.

I can’t wait for next summer to spend more time on Douglas Lake…
