Home Country Roads (Germany) – In Another Minute (Week 217)
This week, I want to show you some of my favorite roads in the world: the back country roads of where I grew up.
Just half an hour north-west of the city of Hamburg, the Haseldorfer Marsch
in the federal state Schleswig-Holstein is an oasis of wide open space
and big sky; large green fields are accented by cattle, horses, tall
trees (and windmills); the dikes, keeping us safe from floods of the
Elbe and the Pinau rivers, are dotted with sheep; and here and there you
find the traditional houses with reed roofs.
Throughout
my childhood and youth, I rode my bike along these skinny roads and I
still have the fondest memories of my adventures. That’s why it is
always such a wonderful feeling of homecoming when I get to cruise
around these familiar paths again, as I did this past week.
By the way, in the middle of this cruising and shooting excursion, we stopped for a piece of Torte (Central European cake layered with whipped cream and fruit or chocolate). Mmmmm… total bliss.
