Reservoir Dog (Whiskey Business 1) - In A Colorado Minute (Week 230)

Our Whiskey dog runs down to Horsetooth Reservoir and fetches a stick - all captured via the GoPro camera strapped to her back with the new GoPro Fetch harness.

Whiskey pretty much comes everywhere with us. And many times, I've wanted to film our excursions from her perspective. When a few weeks ago the GoPro dog harness came out and I watched fun videos of other camera-dogs (mostly Yellow Labs, it seems), I had to try it out as soon as possible. This week, Whiskey, Scott and I tested the harness for the first time at our favorite playground: Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Two things become immediately clear: Whiskey loves running, swimming and fetching... and the GoPro camera and Fetch harness are really intended for bigger dogs. The camera lens ends up so far above the pivot point on her tiny back, that it pivots so much, one could get dizzy from watching. But I believe the joy she seems to have and the fun of watching action from her (just behind those floppy ears) perspective overwhelm the technical issues. To make it a little less jostling, I slowed down the footage a little bit.

The lighting wasn't so great either, with the sun having just disappeared behind the Foot Hills. So I had to brighten the footage up a bit, which took away a lot of the beautiful colors of our ginger dog and the wonderful scenery. I'm sure we'll soon try to get brighter daylight footage with her, and there should be an onslaught of Whiskey Business episodes to come as part of my weekly 1-minute web series Moving Postcard.

The featured song in this video is the instrumental version of "Learn To Fly" by Josh Woodward.
